Pastor Joe
Joseph Fred “Pastor Joe”
Johnson is Senior Pastor of Mount Hebron Church Ministries in Mobile, Alabama.
He is the second of four
children born to James and Gohn Johnson of New Orleans, Louisiana. He has been married to Linda Curry
Johnson for over 46 years and is the father of four children
... Tiffany, Timothy, Nicholas, Christal and currently adopting two more.
Pastor Joe grew up in The
Crescent City and was educated in the public school system there. After
completing high school, he enrolled at Xavier University in New Orleans, where
he attended for two years before joining the United States Air Force in
1974. He was later deployed to England to serve in Operation Desert Storm.
During his tour of duty,
Pastor Joe was responsible for setting up medical (M.A.S.H.) units before
retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant in January 1994,
capping 20 years of service.
The Johnson's moved back to
Mobile immediately upon his military retirement, and he began teaching in the
Mobile County Public School System.
In August of 1993, Pastor
Joe accepted his calling to the ministry, and three years later (1996)
became Pastor of the then Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church.
Under his leadership, membership
grew from 200 to over 1,000 in the by December 2001. Over 40 new ministries were added to
meet the needs of a growing congregation.
Pastor Joe led the church in
purchasing two old car dealerships that soon became the campus for a new
sanctuary and Daycare in 2003. The Bright Spot, a multi-purpose church facility
was opened in 2008.
Pastor Joe is a visionary
who leads with passion as he oversees a steadily growing congregation of over
5,000 including Elders, Ministers, Deacons, A Community Development and Bright
Spot Boards.
Pastor Joe leads the Church
in “Reaching the World for Christ with Clean Hands and a Pure Heart” by serving
and supporting ministries locally, nationally and internationally.
At present, the church
owns nearly thirty acres of land, twelve of which is interstate property
and is totally debt free.
Pastor Joe is a graduate of
Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, IL and the University of Mobile,
Mobile, AL. He has been awarded honorary
Doctorates from St. Thomas Christian College of Jacksonville, Florida and the
University of Mobile, Mobile, Alabama.
